Electronic components

Rittal Online Seminar – System climate basics

Electronic components not only provide their intended functions within their modules, but also generate heat (power losses), which is dissipated to their immediate surroundings. The electrical resistance causes the operating current to heat up the components, which then dissipate this heat through conduction or radiation at their surfaces.

If this heat dissipation is insufficient, the components can reach very high temperatures, which can reduce their service life and/or lead to malfunctions (e.g. temperature drift in operational amplifiers). At the same time, there is an increased risk of failure of the device, which could even bring the whole production process to a standstill.
